Mexico: provisional duty on colored float glass from China
Mexico's 9 September preliminary decision sets a six-month provisional antidumping duty of 0.11917 USD/kg on Chinese-origin colored float glass. The covered product includes unworked, mass-tinted float glass 2–19 mm thick. The duty covers temporary and definitive imports under TIGIE 7005.21.03 or any other line, regardless of the shipping country, from 10 September 2026.
What changed
The Ministry of Economy provisionally found dumping and material injury in Chinese-origin colored float glass. Its product description covers mass-tinted float glass, unworked beyond cutting, with thickness from 2 mm through 19 mm.
The operative paragraph imposes 0.11917 USD/kg on covered temporary and definitive imports regardless of the country of dispatch; 7005.21.03 is named, but another tariff line does not remove a covered product. The measure takes effect on 10 September for six months.
Hacienda applies the duty, payable in Mexican pesos; the decision also permits interested parties to secure provisional payment in a form allowed by the tax code.
Immediate operational checks
- Identify mass-tinted, otherwise unworked float glass 2–19 mm thick in your import pipeline; check Chinese origin even if shipped through another country, and review entries under 7005.21.03 or any other line.
- For covered temporary or definitive entries from 10 September 2026, calculate the provisional 0.11917 USD/kg exposure and ask your broker about peso settlement or an allowed guarantee.
- If the goods are not of Chinese origin, retain the evidence required by the cited non-preferential origin rules; confirm product scope and entry treatment with your broker.
