Mexico waives a transit guarantee on the interoceanic corridor
From 14 October 2026, qualifying international transit between Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz, in either direction, is exempt from the customs guarantee account requirement. The 13 October decree limits relief to continuous transit exclusively through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec corridor.
What changed
Goods must leave the destination customs office in the same condition as they entered and comply with SAT rules. Commercial storage, sale, processing, deconsolidation, splitting and diversion into Mexico’s domestic market are prohibited.
Corridor infrastructure and service charges still apply; breaching the conditions can trigger definitive taxes and sanctions.
Three checks for import teams
- Confirm the two customs offices and exclusive corridor route before booking.
- Preserve seal, cargo and movement records showing continuous, unchanged transit.
- Check SAT operating rules and budget for corridor charges despite guarantee relief.
